From the time the first Germans arrived in Singapore in 1822 until today, they have played a remarkable role in shaping the nation’s economic landscape. Over the years, Germany and Singapore have developed close ties in many areas – economic, political, and cultural.
In 2022, Ms Sabine Hein’s book Germans in Singapore was published to celebrate and document this long-standing relationship between the two countries. Singapore has long served as a gateway to Asia for German companies, while German expertise and innovation have, in turn, contributed greatly to Singapore’s growth and success.
To bring these stories to life, the German Association invites you to join a special heritage tour that highlights some of the German pioneers and their lasting contributions. The history and achievements of the German community are deeply intertwined with Singapore’s own journey as a nation.
Stroll with us through the Civil District – also known as the Colonial Area – where early Europeans once lived, worked, and socialised.
Come along on this fascinating tour with our guide Charlotte to discover the stories of the pioneering Germans who helped lay the foundations for the vibrant community that continues to call Singapore home today.
